Old Fire Marks by W. Emmert Swigart, reprinted from the Bulletin of the Historical Society of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Text and photos, 18 pages. The book presents the history and displays fire marks used in fire fighting history. The front and back covers as well as the interior pages are intact and bound and the overall condition is very good.
Fire insurance marks were lead or copper insignia placed on an individuals house to alert each particular insurance fire brigade that this house was protected by that company for fire supression. These marks were widely used in the 1700's until public (governmental fire departments were provided for use in the early 1800's.
